The box and the sprues!

The blue one is very appealing but the black and yellow is eye catching!

I'll start the building with the resin seats to replicate the MK8 ejection seats.

First I just remove the seats from the resin block they were seating on, not an easy work and end snapping off the rocket guards on both seats, now I'll have to rebuild them. But I some progress painting the cockpit tube and adding some detail to right hand side fuselage, just behind the the cockpit, I also put some weight to keep the nose landing gear on the floor (I'll try to squeeze a few more once I glue the cockpit in place), see the pictures below.

Busy day!
I finally finish painting the cockpit details and ending closing the the fuselage halves.

Minha técnica para fazer as alças de ejeção: dois fios de costura (preto e amarelo) passa-se cola branca e enrrola-os e deixa esticado até secar, depois é só fazer o formato da argola, cortar e colar no kit.

Aqui com os assentos ejetáveis no lugar.

As duas metades fechadas e aguardando a cola (jet líquido) secar.

After a break due some commitments I am back into business. The following photos show the model after puttying and sanding, and to be honest I didn't use much putty at this stage, mostly sanding to remove the excess plastic melted when using JET liquid bonder. The nose was the part that has required more attention and I had to end using some cianocrilate to get a perfect joint.

I also fixed the exaust pipes after drilling a hole on them, this part required a bit more of attention and dry fit before gluing, I used Mr Surface 1000 to correct the joint cleaned with a cotton bud wetted in thinner 110 from Gunze.

Modelo após ser emassado e lixado. Não precisei de muita massa, apenas na área do nariz é que deu mais trabalho e foi onde usei Cianocrilato para obter uma junção perfeita.

Aproveitei para fixar os escapamentos, já que são complicados de se colarem e exigiu vários ajustes a seco antes da colagem. Depois de colado as juntas foram cobertas com Mr Surface 1000 e alisadas com um cotonete embebido em thinner 110 da própria marca. Aproveitei para fazer os furos do escapamento.

Next steps is to fit the wings.

Hi all! I'm back with some updates.

I was very pleased and quite surprised by the excellent fit of the model. After a dry fit I just needed to put a little bit of Mr Surface 1000 on the joints and cleaned with a cotton bud wetter in Gunze 110 Thinner.

As you can see by the pictures it was enough the get a smooth joint.

Observe os encaixes no ventre, muito bons, apenas um pouco de Mr Surface 1000 e depois retirado o excesso com cotonete embebido em thinner Gunzer 110.

Fiquei surpreso com os encaixes desse modelo. Apenas um teste a seco e correção com lixa antes de colar e depois Mr Surface ans juntas retirando o excesso com Gunze Thinner 110.

Outra vista mostrando os encaixes muito bons para o modelo.

Another thing that I decided to do was the landing lights located in both wings. To do this I followed the below sequence, first I cut the squares where the lights should be located and glued a piece of clear sprue on it using JET liquid bonder and set aside for completely dry overnight.

Decidi fazer os faróis de pouso localizados nas asas, para isso eu comecei cortando os locais onde os faróis serão posicionados e em seguida colei pedaços de sprue transparente usando JET líquido e deixei secar de um dia para outro.

Veja como ficaram os sprues transparentes colados. Note tamb'em que aas junções da asas ainda não haviam sido corrigidas.

I started giving the correct shape to the light using a file and sand paper (400 and 1000).

Começando a dar forma ao farol.

Aqui já terminado. Primeiro lixei com lima até atingir o formato básico, em seguida lixei com lixa 400 e depois lixa 1000.

After happy with the overall shape I gave it a polish using acrylic nail polish stick. I will give a coat of Future when I finish the painting.

Depois de lixado fiz um polimento com uma lixa para polir unhas acrílicas, posteriormente depois da pintura irei passar uma camada de Future.

Well, I did represented the explosive cord on the cockpit canopy, I did it using white sewing thread glued using Future inside the canopy. As you can see in the photo below the design is a little bit complicated and I confess I could not represent it exactly, so I did the best approach I could and I thought it was enough in this scale.

Fiz o cordão explosivo do canopy usando linha de costura branca colada internamente usando Future. Se você observar a foto acima verá que o desenho é bem complicado. Confesso que não consegui fazer o desenho correto mas fiz uma aproximação e julguei que ficou boa para essa escala.

The canopy already in place and glued! Yes! You will have to wait until I finish the model to see the explosive cord inside!

Hi all!

The update today is basically the navigation lights.

I wasn't happy with the modelled lights in the kit, so I decided to cut them using a photo etched saw that I have recently bought, then I glued a piece of clear sprue cut in half in place. Before gluing it I did a small hole with a drill bit in the end that would be glued and painted one in green (right hand side wing) and one in red (left hand side wing) as it is the international standard.

Eu não estava satisfeito com as luzes de navegação que no modelo vem apenas representadas como um baixo relevo. Assim eu decidi cortar o local onde elas estão localizadas, para isso usei uma micro-serra de photo-etched metal que comprei recentemente. Em seguida cortei um pedaço de sprue transparente ao meio, fiz um pequeno furo na parte que iria ser colada, pintei e colei no local usando JET líquido.

O padrão internacional para luzes de navegação é cor verde no lado (asa) direito e vermelho no lado (asa) esquerdo.

After allowing the glue to set overnight I started sanding it to shape, first using a file and following using sand paper 400, 600 and 1000. I always use the sandpaper wetted with water, which improves the sanding finish and also makes the sandpaper last longer. The final process was the same used to polish the landing lights described before witha final polish using the acrylics nail polish stick.

Depois de deixar a cola secar por um dia, comecei o processo de dar forma à luz.

Promeiro usei uma micro lima para fazer o contorno geral.

Em seguida comecei lixar usando lixa d'água. Eu sempre lixo com o papel molhado em água, isso melhora a qualidade final do acabamento e também faz com que a lixa se desgaste menos durante o processo.

Comecei usando lixa d'água 400, em seguida 600 e finalmente lixa 1000. Para o acabamento final usei o mesmo processo descrito anteriormente para os faróis de pouso, com um polimento final usando lixa para polir unhas acrílicas.

Hi pals! After a long period without any update, here it is!
I already painted the model and gave it a coat of Future, I had a problem when applying the Future and I think it is because mine is a little bit old (I got it since 2004!!!!!), it formed a kind of granulation, like if it is when touching the model. I'll try to fix it by gently rubbing a tissue soaked in Windex and see what happens, than I'll re-coat the Future using a brush. I'm not into the idea of repainting this model (no way!).

Embaixo é que ficou uma falha acho que provocada pelo Future, ficou uma superfície enrrugada na raiz da asa, parecendo que o Future secou antes de chegar ao modelo. Vou passar um pano embebido em Vidrex cuidadosamente e depois reaplicar o Future no local usando pincel.

Next time I'll show you the bits and pieces that I have painted.

A model to forget!
This is how I'm feeling about this one!
This model proved to be an exercise of patient when finishing it.
I had problems with the painting and when I applied Future. I had problems with the decals (please lord deliver us from Airfix decals, amen!) Then when I got all the model ready, I decided to give a clear satin coat using Tamiya clear coats (a dab of matt + clear gloss), the first one went allright, than I decided to give a second one, well! I didn't work as planned! It formed a white crust on the top of the right side wing, I tried to remove using paper towel soaked in Tamiya thinner, it was a disaster! I ended up removing with a soak brush!
I gave another coat of clear gloss and that is it! (Before I try to make it really fly out of my window!)
Here is the result, please don't make any jokes! :D!

Hello everyone!

After a long period of non-modelling due to moving to another country (Brazil to Australia), I'm finally took the time and re-organised my gear to start in model building again!

As I have a passion for P-38's I have decided to start with this one from Dragon in 1/72nd scale.

It is a very nice kit, easy to build, crisp recessed panel lines and an honest cockpit which deserves a little bit of scratch or aftermarket parts details to bring it to life, not in my case though! After four years without modelling I just wanted to go straight and out of the box with this one! One thing I just noticed when I was already painting it is that Dragon didn't include a pitot tube in this model (I'm not kidding!) and I had to do it by scratch. The decals are nice, a little too thick but they react very well to decal settings and Future.

I'm sorry I didn't have any photos on the assembly, so here is the model after the primer and after the correction were made!

A very roughly applied pre-shade since my intention is to make an abused plane to the conditions it usually had in that theatre of operations.

Pré-sombreamento aplicado bem a esmo, pois pretendo fazer um avião envelhecido pelos combates e pelas condições adversas encontradas naquele teatro de operações.

The propellers are a little too complicate to put together but I did my best, next time I'll try to construct a template to help me put them together at the same inclination (pass). Here they are with the first coat of black paint.

Primeira etapa da pintura com tinta preta. Com as pás vem separadas deu um pouco de trabalho para colá-las corretamente, na próxima vez irei fazer um molde onde possa colocá-las no lugar com a inclinação correta antes de colar.

And the bird is silver! I painted with Tamyia acryclic paint Silver, very thinned (almost 60% thinner : 40% paint) because I wanted the pre-shading to show through.

Já pintado com tinta acrílica Tamiya - Silver, bem diluído (quase 60% solvente : 40% tinta) porque minha intenção era que o pré-sombreamento feito anteriormente ficasse evidente.

Bits and pieces painted and waiting for either decalling or weathering. The interior green from Gunze was sprayed inside the wheel bays and doors.

Algums componentes já pintados e aguardando serem envelhecidos ou aplicação de decais. O interior green é Gunze e foi aplicado no interior das caixas de rodas e nas portas desses compartimentos.

After a final coat of Future to seal and level the model I brush Matt Varnish from Vallejo over the decals to make it matt and give a contrast with the rest of the plane body.

Depois de passar uma última demão de Future para selar e nivelar a pintura eu apliquei um verniz fosco da Vallejo com pincel em cima dos decais para dar um contraste com o resto do avião.

Take a look into the scratch built pitot tube made out of a hypodermic needle close to the christmas tree 5.5 inches rocket launcher.

Observe o tubo de pitot próximo ao lança-foguetes feito em scratch usando uma agulha hipodérmica.

And that's it! I was quite happy with the end results after so many years without model building. And this model became especial since I was granted my Australian citizenship this week! Now I'll have to model an Aussie model to celebrate!

E é isso pessoal! Eu fiquei muito felix com o result ado final depois de tanto tempo sem montar nada. E esse modelo ainda tem um significado especial já que seta semana recebi o meu certificado de cidadania australiana, agora terri que montar um modelo aussie (apelido dos australianos) para celebrar!

PS: After finishing the model and took the photos I wasn't quite happy with the aerials, it was so over-scale, so I re-did it using my wife's hair (she is a brunet so I don't need to bother painting it! LOL!

PS: Depois de finalizado o modelo e depois que tirei as fotos eu não fiquei satisfeito com as antenas que ficaram fora de escala, então as refiz usando fios de cabelo da minha esposa, por ela ser morena nem precisei pintar! LOL!

The best of show was this impressive diorama representing the "Operation Catalyst - Australian Defense Force in Iraq - 2006"

The modeller is Adam Lehmann from South Australia . The reference he bought together with the diorama was very comprehensive.

Gostaria de compartilhar com vocês algumas fotos que fiz na minha recente visita ao National Motor Museum, localizado em Birdwood - SA, a mais ou menos 35km do centro de Adelaide SA.

Um museu muito bem conservado com o acervo impecável, sendo que além dos carros pertencentes ao próprio museu, também se encontram carros e motos de colecionadores privados que ficam em exposição por temporadas, uma excelente idéia, pois muitas jóias raras de coleções privadas podem, dessa maneira, serem apreciadas.

Infelizmente não tive tempo de anotar todos os nomes dos carros e motocicletas expostos.

WALKAROUND: ORDNANCE QF 25 POUNDER MK II - FIELD GUN / HOWITZER

SPITFIRE MK IX - Pierre Clostermann (Italeri 1/72)

This model from Italeri on 1/72nd scale I did to represent the biggest French ace during the Second World War, Pierre Clostermann, and curiously he had a link with Brazil!

Pierre was born in Curitiba in the State of Paraná, and he lived there until he was 11 years old, in one of the latest interviews he did for a Brazilian TV Network he did mostly in Portuguese!

Besides the curious link with Brazil, what have attracted me was the paint scheme, I always wanted to build a model representing the Normandy Invasion with the white and black stripes, very attractive!

KI-55 Treinador japonês WWII (Fujimi 1/72)

Esse pequeno treinador foi muito utilizdo pelos japoneses durante a segunda guerra mundial e chegaram até a receberem armamentos e entraram em combate.
Esse kit da Fujimi é muito bem feito, o cockpit é bem simples, mas depois de montado não se enxerga muita coisa mesmo!
Todo em baixo relevo fino e encaixes muito bons, eu recomendo!

ME-262 A1 (PROMODELLER 1/72)

Hi all!

This time I have decided to build a classic. Amongst all WW2 warbirds, I think some airplanes are especial and therefore deserve to be in a collection, and between them is, without a doubt, the Me-262.
It was the first operation jet engined airplane, and almost changed the destiny of that conflict, all due an strategic error that is not the case to discuss here, what really matter is that it is beautiful, agressive and its painting schemes are less than ordinary!

I did build this model straight from the box without any major change besides changing the decals to show the ME-262A1a version used by Oberfeldwebel Heinz Arnold, 11./JG 7 (Prague-Ruzyn, April 1945).

TIME FOR DIRTY! MILITARY VEHICLES

Como alguns de vocês devem saber, gosto muito de modelos de militaria, todos na escala 1/35. Então nada mais justo do que mostrar alguns deles por aqui.
Vou postar aos poucos, assim sempre terá alguma coisa diferente por aqui para ser vista.

TIGER I - TAMIYA (MOLDE ANTIGO - '70)

2. SS-Panzer-Regiment “Das Reich”

Esse kit da Tamiya era um terror de ruim! Vários erros e poucos detalhes, porém era o único disponível então.
Eu sei que a Tamiya já tem vários Tiger I com molde novos, realmente muito bons, mas como eu tinha esse modelo na estante, pensei comigo: "Vamos ver o que podemos fazer com esse modelo, é uma boa chance de se experimentar novas técnicas, sem a dor na conciência de estragar um bom modelo." E foi o que eu fiz! Nesse modelo eu testei várias técnicas, desde montagem, pintura e em especial o envelhecimento. Também foi a primeira vez que montei um modelo com esteiras do tipo Link-by-Link (usei o set da Academy).
Aé estão as fotos do modelo terminado.

F-51D MUSTANG - Korean War

Olá pessoal!
É a primeira vez que me aventuro a fazer um Blog, so be easy, ok?
Para a inauguração eu escolhi o modelo que irei montar agora. Esse modelo será montado para o Grupo de Montagem da Webkits .
Aqui todos poderão acompanhar o passo a passo da montagem.
Essa foto aí do lado é o avião que pretendo fazer, vamos ver no que vai dar no final.

As fotos seguintes são do modelo da Tamiya, na escala 1/72. O modelo apesar de dispensar apresentações merece um destaque, é simplesmente maravilhoso, com as linhas de painéis bem definidas e os encaixes maravilhosos, acho que não terei maiores problemas nessa montagem.

Então vamos por mãos `a obra!

Até que enfim fiz alguns progressos na montagem do F-51D. Seguindo as instruções comecei pela montagem do cockpit, não houve maiores problemas, a montagem foi sem sustos. O decal que representa o

painel de instrumentos teve que usar Future para assentar corretamente sobre o painel (o painel foi pintado antes de aplicar o decal com XF-1 Tamiya), alguns detalhes foram realçados usando tintas branca, vermelha e amarela (Hobby Cores e Tamiya, segui as instruções para a sugestão de cores para pintura, no caso do interior green que na instrução pedia para fazer uma mistura de 2:1 com amarelo e verde, eu preferi usar diretamente o Interior Green da Model Master (FS3415) e também o Olive Drab dessa mesma marca para o encosto do banco e de cabeça. A cor alumínio da parte detrás do cockipt é Humbrol 99.

Continuando nossa montagem nessa etapa encaixei o cockpit na fuselagem e colei as duas metades da fuselagem, em seguida colei a parte de baixo da asa, engraçado como eu sempre gostei de montar as asas começando pela fixação da parte de baixo e pela primeira vez eu vi essa sequência num folheto de instruções. Como vocês poderão observar o encaixe ficou perfeito, quase não terei que usar massa em nenhum local, realmente esse modelo da Tamiya vale o que custa.
Abaixo estão algumas fotos de como ficou até o momento:

Bom! Dando prosseguimento à montagem, estou quase chegando à reta final.
Colei as asas, refiz as metralhadoras com agulha de injeção, ficou bem melhor, isso é uma coisa simples de se fazer e que dá um ótimo resultado visual.

Em seguida colei o parabrisas e mascarei com Parafilm M, parece que não esté isolado mas está! Para montar a parte de trás da carlinga, era necessário pintar primeiro a armação inferior do canopy que é preto fosco, então aproveitando o uso do aerógrafo joguei um pouco de tinta nas emendas das asas e fuselagem para conferir se estava tudo de acordo, ou seja, sem falhas no emasseamento. Tudo ok!

Depois de seca a tinta da armação do canopy eu isolei a parte transparente com fita Tamiya e colei na armação. Para toda a colagem eu uso somente JET.

Por enquanto é isso! Durante a semana vou trabalhar nele para ver se consigo já pintar durante o próximo final de semana.

Sem muitos progressos! Aerografei o fundo em interior green (Model Master) na armação do canopy.

Mais algum progresso no modelo. Agora já parti para a pintura, comecei aplicando uma camada de preto brilhante (Tamiya X-1) diluído com um pouco de Future.

Essa mesma pré-pintura eu apliquei nos tanques de combustível sub-alares.
Em seguida foi a vez de pintar a cor alumínio, nesse caso sem nenhuma frescura, usei o Alumínio Extra-Brilho da CORALIT, aqui uma foto da cara dele!

Apliquei o alumínio com aerógrafo e essa tinta diluída com Aguarráz Mineral (que tem menos cheiro ruim). Em alguns lugares eu apliquei uma camada mais fina, justamente para dar um efeito de sombreado, já em outros eu apliquei mais tinta, dessa forma tentei obter uma superfície que não tivesse uma camada tão uniforme.

Mais uma atualização, dessa vez parti para a pintura em si!
Depois de pintados na cor alumínio como foi descrito, passei uma demão de Future nos tanques de combustível sub-alares e mandei os decais e de novo uma camada de Future. Depois foi só passar uma aguada com preto fosco da Tamiya para dar uma profundidade. Essa mesma aguada foi usada nas portas do trem de pouso e no trem de pouso e também nas rodas. Os pneus foram pintados com tinta Gunze (Black Tire) e depois foi feito um pincel seco com cinza da Tamiya.

Em seguida mascarei o avião com fita Masking tape da Tamiya e mandei ver preto fosco + preto brilhante (XF1 + X1) da Tamiya na superfície anti reflexo do capô e em uma parte do leme.

Agora é esperar secar bem para pintar outros detalhes em amarelo. Até a próxima!

PS: Depois de pronto um amigo me alertou que a faixa anti-reflexo não se estreitava tanto (o que pode ser visto na foto que estou me baseando) então decidi refazer a frente da faixa.

Chegando na reta final!
Com o modelo pintado passei uma camada de Future para selar e também para servir de base para a aplicação dos decais. Antes porém finalizei a hélice que recebeu o seguinte tratamento:
pintura + Future + decais + Future + Verniz Fosca da Acrilex (direto do spray).

O avião em sí recebeu: Pintura + Future + Decais + Future, agora vou fazer o wash com preto para dar uma profundidade nos baixos relevos para depois selar tudo com verniz fosco da Acrilex igual eu fiz com a hélice. Esse processo de decalque do modelo levou 02 dias para ser finalizado.

Uma outra observação! Como na foto da revista Asas não é possível visualizar maiores detalhes sobre as marcações de numerações da aeronave, decidi por usar os decais da folha da Tamiya inteiros, pois eles fazem um avião do 18º Flying Bomb Group que está representado na foto, de outra forma o modelo ficaria incompleto em suas marcações.
Nesse final de semana completo esse modelo, pois quero apresentá-lo na Expo de Plastimodelismo aqui de Lavras, que será a última Expo aqui que terei oportunidade de participar já que estou de mudança para a Austrália em outubro agora!
